On Friday 4 August, 2017 the Trinidad and Tobago Marathon Committee (TTMC) launched the 2018 International Marathon Festival of Events. The 36th Edition of this signature Marathon takes place on Sunday 21 January. Once again the very popular Marathon Team Relay will take place simultaneously; in the Relay Schools, Open/Clubs and Corporate Teams come together and have fun. On Saturday 20 January the weekend will commence with the 5K.
2017 marks the 200TH Anniversary of the largest roundabout in the World, The Queen’s Park Savannah and our finish line for most of the 36 years the race has been in existence. The TTMC identifies with this significant milestone and recognizes the contribution the QPS has made to the enjoyment and success of the race itself. To recognize the importance of this green space TTMC members will join together on August 19 to plant a tree.
Diane Henderson, Chairman of the TTMC in noting that in 2018 the race will only be three weeks away from the National Carnival festivities, has invited runners wishing to don costumes to do so. Runners from all over the World can get ready for the Carnival 2-Day Marathon and ignite the Spirit of Carnival.
Over US$40,000 prize money will be at stake for the Marathon with the first place male and female receiving US$5000 each for their efforts. Incentives for local runners and age group awards will be up for the taking.
The certified course is flat, fast and undulating and passes several scenic communities along the way from St. Mary’s Junction, Freeport to the QPS, in Port of Spain. Party Crews will be out along the route to cheer on the runners.
